What is a rehabilitation officer?

Rehabilitation officers (ROs) are responsible for supporting the case management of job seekers participating in disability management services due to a disability, injury or health condition.

Rehabilitation officers (ROs) assist job seekers and clients to work through any barriers to employment under the supervision of rehabilitation consultants who are qualified allied health professionals.

The rehabilitation officer (RO) role often involves:

  • providing administrative and case management support to rehabilitation consultants within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • supporting the job seeker from the beginning of an employment program (i.e. initial contact, providing employment preparation services, locating suitable vacancies), and providing support towards the end of an employment program (i.e. post placement support, preparing reports and receiving feedback)
  • establishing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders including job seekers, employers, community groups and internal CRS Australia staff
  • delivering specific services in line with the needs of the job seeker, employers, customers, organisational framework and quality requirements.

The rehabilitation officers (ROs) are required to possess the following qualifications:

  • Certificate IV in Employment Services
  • Certificate IV in Disability Work
  • Certificate IV in Community Services or Service Coordination
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health (non-clinical)
  • or equivalent.
