Seeing my job seekers happy

Each year CRS Australia helps job seekers from multicultural backgrounds find suitable work. Job seekers quite often face barriers, such as limited English skills, in addition to their disability.
Song, a Senior Rehabilitation Consultant at CRS Australia's Fairfield office in New South Wales, did not know a word of English when he migrated from China in 1990.
Song understands how difficult it can be to find employment, especially with a language barrier. He worked in a factory job for many years as he learnt English before deciding to study to become an occupational therapist.
Song now draws on his own experiences to help job seekers with language barriers to achieve their goals.
'It is extremely hard to compete for jobs with people who can speak English. Instead of looking through the employment section of newspapers as a first point, I advise job seekers to find alternative ways of finding work,' says Song.

Song encourages job seekers to ask family and friends to spread the word that they are looking for work.
Since starting with CRS Australia six years Song has assisted over 147 job seekers into successful long-term work placements.
Song says the secret to his success is simple: 'To get people into work, you need to look at what it is that they really need and then work out how you can help them achieve it'.
'Job seekers don't need you to hold their hand, they need you to encourage them, support them and help them to feel empowered so that they keep trying to find a job.'
'The best part of my job is to see my job seekers so happy after finding work. It's great to feel you are doing something good for someone else.'
