CRS Australia takes local Leader award in Victoria

20 August 2008

In recognition of their commitment to building partnerships within the local community, CRS Australia's South Yarra office won a Leader Business Achiever Award on Tuesday 19 August at a local awards ceremony.

The awards, which were held in the city of Stonnington (and are also held across another 26 regions in Melbourne), recognise and celebrate local business excellence.

Over the years, the awards have recognised thousands of local businesses for their customer service, innovation and the relationship they have established with their local community.

CRS Australia was initially nominated by the local community. This nomination was then followed by a submission that addressed CRS Australia's achievements, promotions and future challenges. The judging also involved 'mystery shoppers' visiting the local CRS Australia office.

Verity Merrill, employment services consultant at CRS Australia's South Yarra office, attended the ceremony. 'It was a fun night and a great opportunity to connect with other small businesses at a local level,' says Verity.

'Our team is thrilled - not only to be nominated but the fact that we won!'

CRS Australia won the award in the Community Services/Not-for-Profit Organisation category, amongst a group of five finalists.

CRS Australia is the country's largest provider of vocational rehabilitation and assessment services to people with a disability, injury or health condition.

Each year thousands of employers, small and large, partner with CRS Australia to find motivated, hardworking staff to fit the business' unique requirements.

CRS Australia's South Australian Employer Awards recognise those employers who have shown exceptional commitment to people with disabilities.

This year's South Australian Partnership Breakfast and awards announcement were themed Home Grown Gold and included a presentation by Paralympic athlete Katrina Webb. The morning focused on how businesses could help turn 'silver into gold' by employing a person with a disability.

Trevor Wilkins, SA/NT Divisional Manager of CRS Australia, said job seekers with a disability had plenty to offer.

'What we find is that job seekers who have been out of the workforce through injury, or who have a disability, are some of the most dedicated, enthusiastic and reliable employees around. They sometimes just need a little extra help in the workplace and some tailored training.'

Since July last year, CRS Australia has placed over 12,400 Australian job seekers with disability into work.

'This is a great achievement. And these awards are a way for us to congratulate and thank our valued employers for their continued support and dedication to hiring people with disability.'

CRS Australia's new drop-in area for job seekers in Oakleigh

1 August 2008

Senator the Hon Joe Ludwig, Minister for Human Services, officially opened CRS Australia's relocated Oakleigh office today.

David Waters, CRS Australia's Regional Manager for Melbourne South said the new office will give people in Victoria's Melbourne South region better access to vocational rehabilitation services; a program combining rehabilitation with employment assistance.

'The new office has a drop-in area for job seekers, including internet access, that allows them to search for jobs at a time that suits them,' said Mr Waters.

'An increase in training rooms will also facilitate more group programs and interventions to support job seekers in their rehabilitation and search for work.

'The Oakleigh team had already assisted over 90 local job seekers with significant barriers to find employment in the past 12 months.

'CRS Australia has strong links with the local community, including local employers, health organisations and Centrelink, to ensure Oakleigh's vocational rehabilitation needs are met.

'Employers can access a diverse pool of potential employees who are skilled, motivated and ready to join their business immediately. On-the-job training is a great way for job seekers to gain skills and for employers to access new staff. Post-placement support and expert advice on available workplace modifications and government subsidies are also available,' Mr Waters said.

In addition to vocational rehabilitation services the Oakleigh office provides hundreds of Job Capacity Assessments each year, return to work programs and injury prevention services such as manual handling training.

'CRS Australia has an expert team of consultants who work with people to help them understand their strengths, obtain new skills and build on their confidence so they are ready to enter employment and live independently.'

Residents in Oakleigh, Huntingdale, Carnegie and other surrounding areas will benefit from the services delivered by national provider CRS Australia, who has over 65 years experience helping people get back to work.

CRS Australia is the largest national provider of vocational rehabilitation with over 170 offices throughout rural and regional areas dedicated to help people with a disability, injury or health condition to find or keep a job.
