Local employer takes Diversity@Work Award - Lend Lease

2 November 2007

Lend Lease ICT was last night awarded the Diversity@Work Award in the Employment and Inclusion for People with Disability, medium employer category, at Palladium Crown Towers, Melbourne.

The annual national awards recognise and reward the efforts of individuals, teams and organisations that are working to encourage diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Lend Lease ICT in Australia, who provides support services to the Lend Lease Group in Australia and Asia Pacific, was nominated by vocational rehabilitation provider, CRS Australia.

‘Lend Lease ICT won this award because of their innovative on-the-job training and mentoring programme that helps job seekers gain the skills, confidence and experience they need to join the team. Through this programme they have provided training opportunities for 15 people with disability, with 13 gaining employment with Lend Lease ICT,’ said CRS Australia.

Loraine McKay, Office Administrator, Lend Lease ICT says, ‘Our experience with job seekers and trainees has continued to be positive. I would highly recommend employing people with an injury or disability – they have an extremely high work ethic, are grateful for the opportunity to learn and demonstrate their skills, and as a result put an enormous effort into their work.’

CRS Australia says, ‘Having continued to demonstrate an enormous effort to find training and employment opportunities for people with disability, Lend Lease ICT is a role model to other employers.’

One in five Australians has a reported disability, meaning that we are likely to know someone with a disability whether we’re aware of it or not.

People with disability significantly contribute to our community – not only are they our friends, carers and families, but also valued employees who bring a range of diverse skills, talent and abilities to the workplace.
