Local employer takes Diversity@Work Award - Lark & Creese
2 November 2007
Lark & Creese Land and Engineering Surveyors was last night awarded the Diversity@Work Award in the Employment and Inclusion for People with Disability, small employer category, at Palladium Crown Towers, Melbourne.
The annual national awards recognise and reward the efforts of individuals, teams and organisations that are working to encourage diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Lark & Creese Land and Engineering Surveyors (Lark & Creese), a small business employing eight people, was nominated by vocational rehabilitation provider, CRS Australia.
‘Lark & Creese won this award because of their innovative work training programme which allows the person with disability to gain the necessary skills, confidence and worker attributes required to manage paid employment. Through this programme they have provided training opportunities for eight people, six of these who currently work with Lark & Creese,’ said CRS Australia.
Nick Creese, owner, Lark & Creese says, ‘Any job seeker with an interest in working for the business has an opportunity to do so, particularly people with disability. My experience has shown people with disability have a strong work ethic and tend to be more flexible with their working hours, which suits my business.’
CRS Australia says, ‘Having continued to demonstrate an enormous effort to find training and employment opportunities for people with disability, Lark & Creese is a role model to other employers.’
One in five Australians has a reported disability, meaning that we are likely to know someone with a disability whether we’re aware of it or not.
People with disability significantly contribute to our community – not only are they our friends, carers and families, but also valued employees who bring a range of diverse skills, talent and abilities to the workplace.
