Elynwood Pty Ltd last night attended the Prime Minister’s Employer of the Year Awards at Parliament House, Canberra, as a finalist in the Large Employer category.

The annual national awards recognise excellence in the employment of people with disability within small, medium and large business.

Elynwood, a professional cleaning and commercial catering service with over 100 sites between Frankston and Geelong, was nominated by Australia’s largest provider of vocational rehabilitation services, CRS Australia.

‘Being selected as a finalist is a good result for Elynwood, who continue to demonstrate their commitment to hiring people with disability. Their innovative training programme is delivered using training tools and methods accessible to all employees, no matter what their ability. Through this, they have employed more than 60 people with disability,’ said Margaret Carmody, General Manager of CRS Australia.

Elynwood Managing Director, Michael Ebejer said, ‘Our philosophy is to concentrate on a person’s ability and to put in place the training, policies, processes and support structures that give staff a fair go.

‘This means our employees can work to the best of their ability, which has proven to increase motivation and has had a positive impact on the culture of our company,’ he said.

Each year, thousands of employers, small and large, partner with CRS Australia for help to find motivated, hardworking staff to fit the business’s unique requirements.

‘It’s great that Elynwood’s commitment to hiring and recognising the abilities of people with disability has been recognised by making the finalist list for a major national award,’ says Martin Hanna, CRS Australia Regional Manager.

One in five Australians have a reported disability, meaning we are all likely to know someone with disability whether we’re aware of it or not.

Hanna says, ‘People with a disability significantly contribute to our community–not only are they our friends, carers and families, but also valued employees who bring a range of diverse skills, talent and abilities to the workplace.’
