Lending a hand to the Queensland flood recovery effort

14 January 2011

CRS Australia will send volunteer support staff to Queensland and Northern NSW to assist with the flood recovery effort.

Working in conjunction with state and local government resources, our qualified allied health professional staff will provide support to people affected by the severe flooding.

CRS Australia staff will be deployed to the many communities affected by the floods, with more staff expected to join the effort in the coming weeks and months.

Our work will be with people in the evacuation centres to help them prioritise their needs and access appropriate services.

CRS Australia has demonstrated its ability to work effectively with people coming to terms with the impact of catastrophic events, having provided support and case management to the victims of the Victorian bushfires in 2009.

Margaret Carmody, General Manager, CRS Australia, says, ‘Our staff are counsellors, social workers, psychologists, and other qualified allied health professionals who understand how trauma impacts on mental health.’

‘We are pleased to be able provide this assistance along with Centrelink to the Queensland and Northern NSW communities that have been impacted by such severe flooding’.
