Getting my life back

Melinda, 34, was referred to CRS Australia’s Rockhampton office as she was suffering from depression and needed help to manage a complex workplace situation.
As well as having health problems, Melinda had been looking for work for some time and her confidence took a beating every time she was knocked back for a job.
‘I could see Melinda had potential and that she would make a great employee,’ says Holly, Melinda’s rehabilitation consultant.
With the help of a CRS Australia group course, Melinda explored areas such as conflict management and learning ways to manage stress. Armed with new strategies, Melinda became much more confident.

Her program included disability adjustment counselling and learning to manage complex situations in the workplace.
Through a group course, Holly helped Melinda explore areas such as conflict management and learning ways to manage stress. Armed with new strategies, Melinda became much more confident.
Holly arranged an on-the-job training placement in a disability care organisation, Capricornia Respite Care Association, where Melinda worked with people who have a disability.
The training placement gave Melinda an opportunity to demonstrate her skills and she was offered a permanent position.
She has quickly become one of the most sought-after staff members amongst clients, with frequent requests for Melinda to be their disability support worker.
Melinda says ‘CRS Australia redirected my life. They helped me to make the changes I wanted to make’.
