Information for Australian Disability Enterprises

This information is provided for disability employment services, their employees and families.

Back to topWhat is the Business Services Wage Tool?

The Business Services Wage Tool (BSWT) was introduced to protect a fair day's work for a fair day's pay, in situations where a person is unable to work at full capacity due to their disability.

The Business Services Wage Tool:

  • assists Australian Disability Enterprises to meet quality assurance standards for disability employment services
  • provides a clear assessment process when determining a pro-rata, award wage
  • is funded by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) and is provided at no cost to the Australian Disability Enterprises.

Back to topHow will the wage assessments happen?

FaHCSIA has engaged CRS Australia to manage and conduct wage assessments.

The use of the Business Service Wage Tool is not mandatory. Alternatively, Australian Disability Enterprises may choose to use other wage assessment mechanisms that meet quality assurance standards but this will be at their own cost.

CRS Australia is well equipped to deliver professional and independent wage assessments to meet your needs, as we have:

  • specialist wage assessment staff
  • over 170 offices across Australia
  • a quality assurance program to ensure the integrity of the assessment

Assessors will obtain the input of supervisors and management throughout the process, particularly when verifying productivity timings and assessing against workplace standards of quality, health and safety, and so on.

It is beneficial for Australian Disability Enterprise to provide productivity timings on a worker's usual tasks which may be incorporated in the assessment following verification by the assessor.

In some cases, the assessor may disagree with the judgements made by the employer if they have observed evidence to the contrary, however the reasons for this will generally be discussed with the Australian Disability Enterprise staff.
