Employing a person with disability opens the doorway to opportunity

29 November 2010

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), held on 3 December 2010, is a time to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of people with disability in our community.

CRS Australia, a leading provider of disability employment and assessment services, assists people with disability on a daily basis.

This year CRS Australia would like to use IDPwD to highlight the positive impact a job can have for people with a disability, injury or health condition. Employers who show commitment to providing job opportunities for people with disability can change the lives of many.

‘One in five Australians has a reported disability,’ said Margaret Carmody, General Manager of CRS Australia. ‘This means we’re all likely to know someone with disability whether we are aware of it or not.

‘The only thing that distinguishes a person with disability is that they may need to do certain things differently than other people. People with disability bring a range of skills, abilities and qualifications to the workplace,’ said Ms Carmody.

One employer who has provided training and job opportunities for people with disability is Perth Inflight Catering (PIC).

When CRS Australia first contacted Perth Inflight Catering (PIC) about providing recruitment services for them, neither realised it would be a recipe for success.
Since first contact in August 2009, PIC has employed 18 CRS Australia candidates and provided on-the-job training for a further 19 job seekers.

‘We have found CRS Australia candidates to be well matched, more reliable and motivated to work which has meant it’s a real win for us and the candidates,’ said Nadia Hazife, PIC Key Accounts Manager.

CRS Australia’s 2011 calendar celebrates the success stories of six job seekers, and six employers like PIC.

‘The 2011 calendar offers a glimpse into the lives of a small number of people who, with support from employers, training organisations and CRS Australia staff, have overcome barriers in their lives to achieve sustainable employment outcomes,’ said Ms Carmody.
