Employers awarded for commitment to job seekers
31 October 2008
Minister for Human Services, Senator Joe Ludwig, has congratulated 15 employers who have been awarded a CRS Australia ACT/NSW Employer Award for their commitment to giving all Australians the chance to work.
In all, 35 employers were nominated for the State awards in Sydney last night, for providing job opportunities to people with a disability, injury or health condition.
'I would like to acknowledge the important contribution made by these employers in providing rewarding and sustainable jobs to their fellow Australians,'
Senator Ludwig said.
'Workforce participation is a key challenge for Australia, given the ageing of our population and the chronic skills shortage.
'We can't afford to have potential employees, who can and want to work, excluded from the workforce.
'I'd like to congratulate all those nominated. Australia needs more employers like you, who are willing to focus on a person's ability, not their disability.'
One of the agencies within the Minister's portfolio of Human Services,
Medicare Australia, took out the Government award.
'As the Minister for Human Services, I'd particularly like to congratulate
Medicare Australia for working in close partnership with CRS Australia to place job seekers into meaningful roles.'
