CRS Australia has been recognised for its Environmental Management System with a Merit Award. Presented at the Environmental Management Systems Association (EMSA) Conference Dinner in Geelong in October, CRS Australia received the merit award in the 2010 Excellence in EMS Awards in the ‘Government’ category.

In accepting the award, Acting General Manager, CRS Australia, Michael Robinson acknowledged the importance of an integrated approach to environmental management.

‘CRS Australia’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and corporate environmental policy has ensured environmental matters are integrated into normal business operations via our risk management matrix,’ said Mr Robinson.

‘The EMS is available for all staff to access on our intranet site and includes an environmental discussion page to generate ideas and feedback.

‘We have also established a ‘Green Team’ to rollout and implement initiatives in regional and metropolitan areas across our 180-plus sites,’ said Mr Robinson. ‘We are involved in initiatives such as Earth Hour, National Recycling Week, and GreenFleet carbon off-set programs.’

The EMS Association acknowledged the substantial work CRS Australia had undertaken in developing and implementing an EMS.

‘The judges were impressed with the way that CRS Australia had integrated the EMS into routine operations,’ said EMS Association President, Genevieve Carruthers. ‘In addition, the annual review and reporting cycles undertaken by CRS Australia provide important data to feedback into the system to allow for its continual improvement.’

‘The establishment of our online EMS has enabled us to be innovative and get tangible results in both an environmental and financial sense,’ said Mr Robinson.

‘As an organisation that works to improve the lives of thousands of Australians every year, I am proud that we can also take a proactive role in recognising both our impact and influence on environmental management.

‘I’d like to thank all the dedicated CRS Australia staff involved in developing our environmental management system as an integrated part of our daily business activities.’
