CRS Australia helping job seekers in Coolangatta

26 July 2011

Alison McCann, National Manager, CRS Australia, today officially opened CRS Australia’s new Coolangatta office.

The Coolangatta office relocated to a new location within Showcase on the Beach to continue to provide services and programs for people living in the Coolangatta region.

Alison McCann said, ‘The Coolangatta team has helped more than 95 local job seekers facing significant barriers find employment in the past financial year alone.’

‘The team maintains strong links with the local community, including health organisations, to ensure Coolangatta’s disability employment needs are met.’

‘We’re able to effectively cater for employers with staffing needs as well as our job seekers in their search for suitable jobs,’ Alison said.

CRS Australia has strong working relationships with local employers such as Tweed Coast Protective Services.

Tim Kafer, Master Licensee at Tweed Coast Protective Services, has employed a number of CRS Australia job seekers, giving them valuable experience working in the security field. He also supports job seekers through defensive tactic courses to help them get their security licence.

Tim said, ‘The people from CRS Australia that I’ve seen are generally keen to work and are desperate to break that cycle and find employment’.

‘One of the guys I employed was out of work for about ten years with an injury; he was so keen to get back to work. He’s been with me now for nearly three years and over that time I’ve seen his whole outlook on life change and his self-esteem grow.’

‘The CRS Australia team take a genuine interest in each individual job seeker case. They’re very thorough, they follow through and they do a good job,’ Tim said.

The new office is situated on the services level of Showcase on the Beach shopping centre. The space is bigger with a large job seeker workstation area and more interview rooms. The shopping centre location means there is free parking and good links to public transport.

Alison said, ‘CRS Australia has an expert team of consultants who work with job seekers to help them understand their strengths, obtain new skills and build their confidence so they are ready to enter employment and live independently.’

In addition to delivering Disability Employment Services, CRS Australia’s Coolangatta office provides a range of other valuable services such as return to work programs, ergonomic workstation assessments, manual handling training, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and OHS risk management and consultancy services.

CRS Australia is part of the Australian Government Department of Human Services. It provides disability employment and assessment services to people with a disability, injury or health condition and recruitment, injury prevention and injury management services to employers.

CRS Australia continues to help almost 60,000 job seekers towards meaningful employment each year. CRS Australia believes a job is more than just employment: it provides hope, belonging, confidence and independence.
