Colin helps job seekers connect with employers

Colin  is a CRS Australia Employment Services Consultant (ESC) in Shepparton, an agricultural town 200 kilometres out of Melbourne  known for its major fruit cannery.

His role is to help job seekers connect with employers, by arranging on-the-job training and job placement opportunities.

Since joining CRS Australia 13 years ago, Colin has helped more than 500 job seekers gain employment in the local area.

CRS Australia encourages job seekers to think about getting a job as soon as they start their vocational rehabilitation program. Colin meets with job seekers to discuss their job goals and how to get employment in the local labour market. Knowing the employment goals of job seekers means that Colin can discuss potential candidates with employers when he’s out and about in the community.

Colin says the key to his success is building and maintaining relationships with employers. He works hard to understand a business and its needs so he can find a good match between employer and job seeker.

'It's fantastic to see the difference a job can make in a person's life - it's why I do this job.'

‘You’ve got to have a good understanding of a company’s business. It’s key to making sure a job seeker is right for a job. In a small town, you can’t afford to burn bridges by sending along someone who isn’t right for the job,’ Colin says.

It’s Colin’s commitment to developing relationships that has led to a successful partnership with MEGT Apprenticeship Centre. Working with MEGT, Colin gets job seekers into employment through apprenticeships and traineeships, which also offer great incentives for employers.

Age is no barrier to starting a traineeship. Colin recently helped a 63 year old man start a traineeship with Kyabram Excavations.
