Getting Tony back to doing what he loves

When Tony fell from his horse in 1999, he suffered brain and spinal injuries that resulted in partial quadriplegia. His condition challenged his ability to move, read, write and more.
He was unable to return to his work as a carpenter and vineyard owner.
The year before his accident, Tony and his wife, Carol, had planted five acres of shiraz grapes at Braydun Hill Vineyards in Hackham, South Australia. They were about to embark on the next five acres – until Tony’s accident.
A community-based physical rehabilitation program helped Tony to adjust to his condition and set goals for himself. Two years after his accident he was back riding horses.

A specialist recommended that Tony contact CRS Australia for assistance in getting back to work on the vineyard.
Tony’s rehabilitation consultant, Lindy assessed the full impact of his condition, which included limited fine motor control.
Lindy helped Tony to develop ways to manage his work practices and engaged a CRS Australia occupational therapist to recommend modifications, including a specialised tractor.
CRS Australia helped Tony to apply for the Workplace Modification Scheme. With the payment, Tony was able to purchase a tractor with a modified clutch, extended control handles and a range of other adjustments to ensure he could use the tractor safely.
Tony says ‘CRS Australia took a holistic approach, I felt very comfortable and they really addressed my situation and needs.
‘Without this equipment and the changes, I could not do my job. This really has opened up opportunities for me.’
Tony plans to continue producing wine and looks forward to adding to their collection of wine show awards.
